Meet Magda Napoleon

Magda Napoleon was elected as the Female Democratic District Leader of Part B in the 65th Assembly District on August 1st, 2024 by a group of County Committee members who were elected by their constituents in the June 2023 primary.

All About Me

Magda is a product of the NYC public school system, NYCHA resident for most of her life, a long-time youth advocate, and a results-driven community activist.

Magda gets her passion for community from her dad, Roberto Napoleon, who was the Tenant Association President at Baruch Houses for 40+ years. Magda participated in the Tenant Patrol at Baruch Houses with her father and many tenant association meetings, special community events like toy giveaways, pantry distributions and the annual Baruch Houses Family Days.

Having witnessed the power of coalition building and community mobilizing, between 2000 - 2020, Magda joined and led several of the Parent Associations within our school district. Some of these schools are PS 20, Tompkins Square Middle School, LOMA, Anderson School and NEST. Some of the key issues addressed were class size, school culture, resources for schools and creating space for parents to feel seen and heard.

In 2020, during the height of the pandemic, Magda co-founded LES Mutual Aid which gave out over 3000 meals to families in Lower Manhattan from the East Village to Chinatown. Living within the 65th Assembly District - Part B for close to 30 years, Magda began to focus her efforts on base building and educational opportunities. She joined the board of Friends of 12th Park which is an organization that focuses on providing community events to children and families, year round. She attends PSA 4 meetings which covers the NYCHA developments within the Lower East Side and attends the 7th precinct community council meetings which covers all of the Lower East Side up to Precinct 5 and 9. This allows Magda to stay in the know of what is happening with public safety in the community.

Magda is also an active participant of Community Board 3 where she learns about the new projects entering our community and vocalizes any concerns she may have after having consulted with her immediate community. Magda believes in a bottoms-up approach and that her decisions are reflective of the collective community that she was elected to serve.

In the last 4 months of serving as the newly elected district leader, Magda has held 4 Voter Registration Drives, registered 137 young people under 30 to vote, hosted turkey giveaways, attended 5 NYCHA family days, over 10 NYCHA association meetings, hosted a Poll Worker Education Session, and authored a statement to the Department of Transportation and the community board about speed bumps around school zones and crosswalks where older adults cross. She has galvanized support from NORCs, senior centers, the school district and the elected officials.
